Making a Square Mini Skirt:
Get a 1 yard piece of stretchy material that you like. Trim off the salvage (I use a rotary cutter).
Decide how you want the skirt to drape, all the same length? Longer in the back? Longer on one side? I make mine longer in the back (though I’ve thought of trying an asymmetrical, longer on one side look). Based on what you decided, measure into the fabric for where you should place your slit.
The original instructions I received said to make your slit ½ the distance around your hips. However, when I do that the slit is too big. My recommendation is to start substantially smaller than that, you can always cut the hole bigger if you need to. Use a rotary cutter to cut a strait slit in the position you chose to the length to fit your hips.
If you went with glitter dot, liquid lame or other fabric that doesn’t run or ravel, you are done, no hemming or elastic necessary. You could certainly add elastic either a couple of inches at each hip or all the way around the waist area.
